3 K-Dramas that faced many difficulties during the production: I Can Hear Your Voice, Kill Me Heal Me, Descendants of the Sun
The broadcast of KBS2TV’s “Entertainment company Live” aired on December 10th talked about dramas that made big hits after overcoming twists and turns.
The 3rd place was “I Can Hear Your Voice”. Jung Woong-in, who plays the serial killer Min Joon-guk, was cast two days before the script reading. The actor once revealed a behind story, saying, “I was grilling pork belly with my family at home, and my manager suddenly contacted me. He told me, ‘There is a script reading the day after tomorrow, but the drama cast suddenly got re-organized. I think you should take on the villain role’.”
Compared to other dramas during that period, “I Can Hear Your Voice” was urgently proceeded in production to replace another drama that was failed to be made. At that time, it was predicted that “I Can Hear Your Voice” rating would be around 8-9%.
However, thanks to its solid and exciting story as well as the actors’ excellent acting skills, the drama surpassed other dramas with the same broadcasting time to lead the viewership chart after just 2 episodes and was well-received as a combined genre drama.
After the drama ended, the actors were gifted a vacation, and the female lead actor Lee Bo-young even won a Daesang award. In her acceptance speech, Lee Bo-young said, “I didn’t expect to receive this grand prize. This was not a drama that makes me feel happy only by its high ratings.”
The No.2 drama was “Kill Me Heal Me”. A month before the broadcast, this work still encountered many difficulties in casting because the lead actor had to portray 7 characters at a time.
Reporter Choi Jeong-ah revealed, “Hyun Bin was the first actor to receive an offer for this role. After Hyun Bin refused, the offer went to Lee Seung-gi. Then Lee Seung-gi passed it on to Ji Sung, who was chosen for the role in the end”. Especially, the character of the high school girl Yona became really famous, and even her lip tint and pajama were sold out.
Although the drama was embroiled in a plagiarism controversy, Ji Sung endured it silently with his colleagues. Eventually, thanks to their outstanding acting skills, Ji Sung and Park Seo-joon won the Best Couple Award. In addition, “Kill Me Heal Me” also recorded a total of 13 awards, such as the Popularity Award, Top 10 Stars, etc.
Last but not least, the No.1 drama mentioned on the broadcast was “Descendants of the Sun”. The production of this drama also faced many obstacles before the completed result came out. It is said that after many other actors, including Gong Yoo, Won Bin, Jo In-sung, refused the role of Yoo Si-jin, Song Joong-ki was cast in the end. Moreover, the filming was also halted once due to Song Joong-ki’s injury.
Despite those difficulties, “Descendants of the Sun” still became a hit drama, causing a craze not only in Korea but also in foreign countries. After the drama ended, the male lead actor Song Joong-ki rose to the peak of his career.
