These female idols seem to have it all, except a sense of humor.
For K-pop idols, besides visuals, singing, rapping, and dancing talents, their variety skills are also what help them stand out and attract fans. However, not all idols are born funny and meant to appear on entertainment programs. These 3 female stars are prime examples of “boring idols”.
Irene (Red Velvet)
Irene is known to have a shy and quiet personality. This is what fans find charming about her, but can also create problems for Irene in her job. When Irene guested on the talk show Radio Star, she received complaints from viewers because she said almost nothing and avoided lots of questions throughout her appearance. This even caused her to be criticized for being “rude”.
Even the show’s host had to comment on how quiet she was. Super Junior’s Kyuhyun said, “This is the first time you’ve opened your mouth in an hour.” Comedian Kim Gu Ra added, “I haven’t seen an idol who lacks energy like this since Sohee of Wonder Girls.”
Not only on Radio Star but also on other programs, Irene never left a good impression whenever she was sent to variety shows alone. She was even “called out” by Super Junior’s Heechul for being “beautiful but boring”.
Seohyun (Girls’ Generation)
When it comes to boring female idols, not only does SM Entertainment have Irene, but they also have Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun. Seohyun is famous for her calm, timid, and untalkative personality. So she has never been someone who is good at variety shows.
Seohyun is the youngest member of Girls’ Generation but compared to her sisters who are jokesters, Seohyun is the most serious and mature. Heechul once said on Knowing Brothers, “Seohyun is one of SM’s most boring people. We call her and Irene the “no-fun goddesses” because they’re really boring but they’re are both visuals.”
Son Naeun (Apink)
Apink is considered one of the funniest girl groups that are extremely fun to watch because most of the members are “variety queens”. They are willing to have their image “ruined” just to bring laughter to everyone. However, this does not apply to Naeun.
In an entertainment program, when Apink was asked by MC who is the most boring member of the group, other members did not hesitate to point at Naeun.
Naeun often appears to be quite shy and quiet. She is well-known among fans to have a very reserved personality. But she gets cheerful whenever she is around other members. Although she does not do a good job on variety shows, fans find Naeun’s personality endearing and adorable.
