‘2022 MAMA Awards’ critic Kim Young Dae, “There will likely be a girl group that can become the second BTS”

Pop culture critic Kim Young Dae predicted the future of the K-pop scene.

On the morning of November 16th, a global press conference was held at CJ ENM Center in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.

At the event, pop culture critic Kim Young Dae evaluated, “The Latin and Asian music markets have achieved remarkable growth this year. In particular, the essence of the Asian music market is actually K-pop. K-pop holds the key to the market that was led by Japan”.

He continued, “The news of BTS being nominated for three categories at Grammy Awards was reported today. It doesn’t come as something shocking anymore. This alone paradoxically proves the status of K-pop, isn’t it?”.

Critic Kim explained, “In the past, K-pop was a limited culture. It was also classified as a thing that only became popular like a flash. However, K-pop has expanded and solidified its position since then. Like a small store growing into a big company, the system is being completed gradually.”

In particular, he said, “K-pop’s 4th-generation is making headlines every day and creating a sensation beyond the popularity of the 3rd generation led by BTS and BLACKPINK. I believe this natural generation change has laid the foundation for the long-term popularity of K-pop. In addition, the fandoms of 4th-generation girl groups are also maturing and growing rapidly. I think there will likely be a girl group that can become the second BTS.”

Meanwhile, CJ ENM rebrands “Mnet ASIAN MUSIC AWARDS” as “MAMA AWARDS” in line with the changes in the global music market, such as the expansion of K-pop’s influence from Asia to overseas.

2022 MAMA AWARDS” will be the first event after rebranding. It is scheduled to be held on two days, on the 29th and 30th of November, at Kyocera Dome Osaka, Japan. The award ceremony will also be broadcast live on worldwide online platforms.
