2022 MAMA Awards: BTS swept 6 major awards, IVE won both Daesang and Rookie of the Year

BTS is the owner of the most MAMA trophies this year.

The 2022 MAMA AWARDS was held on November 29th and 30th at Kyocera Dome Osaka, Japan. On the second day, BTS received Yogibo Artist of the Year, Yogibo Album of the Year, and Yogibo Worldwide Icon of the Year among the four Daesangs (grand prizes). In addition to this, they swept all major awards, including the Best Male Group award and Worldwide Fans’ Choice Top 10. They also received the MAMA Platinum, which is given to artist who won 4 Daesangs.

J-Hope, the only member who attended this year’s MAMA, received the Red Carpet Bibigo Culture & Style Award and The Most Popular Male Singer Award. He screamed “ARMY” and expressed his strong aspiration, saying, “I will show you the results, not just words.”

J-Hope said, “For BTS, 2022 is a year in which the seven grown-ups went through growing pains. We tried to find the best way in that situation. All of us are looking back on themselves and are growing according to our individual needs. We ask for your support for our future moves.”

The last remaining Daesang winner, Yogibo Song of the Year, was IVE with “LOVE DIVE”. IVE said with tears in their eyes, “It’s an honor just to stand on the big stage, but we received a valuable award. We will do better in the future. We will become a group that shows a good image.”

The Best Male Artist award was won by Lim Young Woong. He said, “Thank you to the fans who allowed me to receive a great award. I hope that everyone who is watching this will always be healthy and happy.” Nayeon, who won Best Female Artist, said, “This year was a really big challenge for me. I’m so happy that you showed me a lot of interest and love.”

The Best New Artist award went to IVE and Xdinary Heroes. IVE said, “Thank you to our Starship Entertainment family who worked hard for us to release three singles this year. We are always grateful for the love and support of Dive (fandom name).”

Xdinary Heroes, who won Best Band Performance as well as Best New Artist, said, “We have received a very meaningful award. We will use this award as a stepping stone to become a better artist for our fans.”
