2 million pre-orders for BLACKPINK and 1 million for TWICE, a girl group battle in earnest 

IVE, SNSD, BLACKPINK, TWICE, NewJeans are conquering various music charts and reporting record-breaking album sales. 

On August 25th, YG Entertainment, the agency of BLACKPINK, announced that BLACKPINK’s 2nd full-length album “Born Pink” has surpassed 2 million pre-orders, setting the highest record for a female K-pop artist. The agency explained that it is possible to sell more than 3 million copies as there are three weeks left until the release date.

BLACKPINK’s pre-release song “Pink Venom”, released on August 19th, is already a global hit. It was the first Kpop track to top the Spotify Top Songs Global Chart for 3 days in a row, while the music video has recorded 180 million views.

In addition, BLACKPINK filmed the MV for their album’s title song on August 24th, and on August 28th (local time), will perform at the 2022 MTV VMA, which will be held in New Jersey, USA. Along with the comeback, BLACKPINK’s world tour, expected to have a capacity of 1.5 million, will commence.

On the other hand, TWICE’s new album also surpassed 1 million pre-orders. This was announced by JYP Entertainment, the agency of TWICE, on August 25th, who said that TWICE broke their own record with their 11th mini-album “Between 1&2”, which surpassed the group’s previous album “Formula of Love” by 300,000 copies.

TWICE’s album sales are steadily increasing, and the group was selected as the female artist with the most album sales, according to 10-year cumulative data compiled by Circle Chart (previously known as Gaon Chart). As of December 2020, TWICE also holds a record of selling 10 million copies in Korea and Japan.

“Between 1&2” is an album dedicated for fans that contains the stories between the fandom “Once” and Twice. The title song, “Talk that Talk”, will harmonize retro and trendy sounds with lyrics filled with love. “Between 1&2” and “Talk that Talk” will be released at 1PM (KST) on Agust 26th, and TWICE will start their promotional activities through YouTube live and the famous American music show MTV Fresh Out Live. 

Meanwhile, since August, a “Girl Group Battle” has been unfolding on Korean music charts. The legendary girl group SNSD (Girls’ Generation) made their comeback in early August, while HYBE’s rookie group NewJeans has been creating a sensation with various stunning achievements. IVE, who just returned with “After Like” after the success of “Love Dive”, is also sweeping through the net.
