Ahn Hyo Seop, born ’95, is among the celebrities exempted from military service

BTS recently announced all members’ military enlistment. Alongside them, Korean male celebrities born in 1994 and 1995 are all set to temporarily leave their fans to fulfill their mandatory military service, as the Military Service Act does not allow postponement beyond the age of 30.

Among the 1995-born Korean stars who are thriving, attention is drawn to those with foreign nationalities.

‘Dr. Romantic’ series, ‘Business Proposal,’ ‘A Time Called You’ star Ahn Hyo Seop, born in 1995, is an example. Despite being 28 years old this year, he holds Canadian citizenship, eliminating concerns about military service and the mandatory break.

Ahn Hyo Seop was born in Seoul as the youngest of two brothers and one sister. He immigrated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 6 and grew up there. While attending high school in Canada, he was cast by JYP Entertainment at the age of 16 and came to Korea alone to begin his trainee life.

After nearly three years as a trainee, Ahn Hyo Seop left music as a hobby and subsequently switched to an acting-focused agency. He eventually made his debut as an actor.

In 2020, Ahn Hyo Seop received acclaim for his stable acting skills as the male lead in ‘Dr. Romantic 2.’ He won the Best New Actor award at the Donga Baeksang Arts Awards in the TV category and further solidified his position as a popular actor by receiving the Excellence Award at the SBS Drama Awards.
