14 trending actors to team up, saying good-bye to 2021 with “Happy New Year”
The movie “Happy New Year”, which has the cast of all the most popular actors, has been revealed.
On the morning of the 1st, the original TVing movie Happy New Year finally held its production briefing session online. The movie “Happy New Year” is a story about people who visit Hotel Emros with their own stories as they make their own relations in their own ways. Above all, the movie drew heated attention as a romance film with a large number of colorful star actors participating.
As many as 10 actors including Han Ji-min, Lee Dong-wook, Kang Ha-neul, Lim Yoon-ah, Won Jin-ah, Lee Kwang-soo, Cho Joon-young, and Won Ji-an, as well as director Kwak Jae-yong have joined the production briefing.
Han Ji-min plays the role of the hotel manager So-jin who has been hesitant to confess to her male friend for 15 years. On top of that, Kim Young-kwang and Ko Sung-hee worked together as Seung-hyo, the 15-year male friend whom So-jin has a crush on, and his fiancé Young-ju.
Lee Dong-wook will play Yong-jin, the young but capable representative of the Emros Hotel who has an even-numbered obsession, and Won Jin-ah has transformed into Lee Young, the hotel’s housekeeper who dreams of becoming a musical actor.
In addition, Kang Ha-neul will play the role of Jaeyong, a guest who fails the exam to become a public officer, which he has been preparing for 5 years and decides to spend his year-end time at Hotel Emros. Meanwhile, Im Yoona joined the cast as hotelier Sooyeon, who has a special pride in her work and opens the door of Emros Hotel every morning.
Lee Kwang Soo plays a successful singer’s manager whose contract is about to expire, Jo Joon-young and Won Ji-an joined the cast of senior stars as the main characters forming a “first love” romance of high school students.
Lee Dong-wook said, “It was such a variety casting”, adding, “When I heard about the casting, I thought I should participate in this unconditionally. To be honest, I wanted to reduce the amount of my casting fee”. Lee Kwang-soo questioned, “Do you even have to say that? I feel the same way”. Lee Dong-wook then revealed the charm of “Happy New Year”, saying, “Watching other actors’ acting is really interesting.”
Kang Ha-neul expressed his satisfaction with this work, saying, “It doesn’t have too many fantasy details but is made up of many small parts that are realistic. There are many real-life scenes in which excitement solves the situations. I realized that I could understand and sympathize with the story while reading the script”. He added, “Since their acting is so great, I think they have portrayed the excitement much better than the script. I can relate myself to them even more, and I’m sure the audiences can also feel the same.”
Lim Yoon-ah said, “I think the fresh romance of teenagers in the drama is very warm and beautiful. It’s the time we’ve all had in our lives,” Won Jin-ah said, “I laughed a lot at the director’s humor. I felt very comfortable (at the set),” she said, adding to fans’ expectations.
Han Ji-min said, “The biggest reason why many actors chose to be in this film is probably director Kwak Jae-yong. The director gives us girlish innocent feelings. He also points out details that I didn’t think of. I wondered if he knew our emotions because he was older, he was much more awake and led us well.”
Han Ji-min said about her acting of someone who has an unrequited love, “I’ve had a lot of unrequited love in reality. I usually acted as a lover in other works, so So-jin’s feelings of unrequited love came to me in a new way and it was interesting,” she said, adding, “Isn’t it common to like your close friends or colleagues? Since it’s a realistic story, I tried to use my acting to highlight the realistic points.” Kim Young-kwang smiled brightly, saying, “I’m happy,” about his feelings as Han Ji-min’s crush in the production.
Kim Young-kwang said, “We filmed in the middle of summer but had to wear winter clothes. The director liked scarves, so we had to wear them and wear a fan throughout the shoot.”
Lee Kwang-soo introduced, “Lee Kang (played by Seo Kang-joon) is a person who became a singer after being unknown for a long time. My character is a manager whose contract is about to expire.” Lee Kwang-soo, who had previously collaborated with Seo Kang-joon once in the drama “Entourage“, shared his thoughts, “I worked with Kang-joon again. The filming site was full of fun and happiness. I hope these feelings will be conveyed to the audience.” He also sent a video letter to Seo Kang-joon, “Kang-joon, how are you? It’s very cold today, so take care of your health. Fighting!” The actor made everyone burst into laughter by revealing, “The managers around me are cool-headed, so there was no one to refer to when I had to act out emotional scenes.”
Meanwhile, “Happy New Year” was helmed by Kwak Jae-yong, who directed “My Sassy Girl” and “Classic”. Hive Media Corp, which created “Inside Men” and “The Man Standing Next” was in charge of the production.
Director Kwak Jae-yong expressed his confidence, “The scenario is great, so I think success is possible. It seems like I’m predicting the future, but I feel that the work will hit the jackpot.”
Then he added, “Our work has no corona and no mask despite being in the midst of the difficult COVID-19 period. It is a love story in which 14 people are gathered in 7 colors. When the movie is over, you will leave the theater feeling happy and satisfied. The moment you watch it, you will forget all the tough times and be healed.”
“Happy New Year” will be released simultaneously through theaters and TVING in December.
