“12.12: The Day” Director Revealed He Would Overturn If Jung Woo-sung Refuse To Join, “The Character Is Based On Him”

Actors Jung Woo-sung and Kim Sung-soo expressed their feelings about the success of “12.12: The Day”

In the latest episode of JTBC’s “Newsroom,” which aired on December 17th, actor Jung Woo-sung and director Kim Sung-soo from the movie “12.12: The Day” came as guests to share about the movie.

“12.12: The Day” is a movie about the nine hour fight of Seoul soldiers to prevent a rebellion by the new military forces that took place in the capital city of Seoul on December 12, 1979. It has surpassed 8.18 million viewers in 25 days after its release as of the 16th.

Jung Woo-sung said, “I think I’m having the best experience to come this far because the audience cherishes, loves, and cares about the movie.”

Director Kim Sung-soo confessed, “I’m so happy as it’s like a miracle. I had worked hard on this movie, but I was afraid whether people will want to watch this heavy story. It also has a bad ending, so I can’t believe this happened now.”

When asked if he expected 10 million viewers, he said, “Actually, the movie is breaking actor Jung Woo-sung’s past audience record every day. I’m fully grateful for that, and of course, I’ll be even more grateful if it reaches 10 million. I think I can be a little greedy these days.”

Regarding the actors in the role of rebels apologizing to the audience during greeting events, the director said, “It was a situation where we had to apologize first. We feel happy to apologize and be cursed at as the audience was clearly immersed in the movie so well.”

In this movie, Jung played Lee Tae-shin, the commander of the capital’s security forces with conviction and loyalty. Jung Woo-sung said, “Rather than supporting the character Lee Tae-shin, I think this human being has many egos in his mind. Watching this movie, I wants to support a certain will of him, Lee Tae-shin. “Oh, that’s right. I think it’s his determination that even if that choice is difficult, he will support and protect it”

Announcer Kang Ji-young mentioned the director’s words that he would overturn if he couldn’t cast Jung. “I wrote it with Woo-sung in mind,” director Kim Sung-soo said honestly. “I felt like the character overlaps with Woo-sung, but Jung Woo-sung said he wouldn’t do it. I had vague expectations that he would do it if I overturned.”

In response, Jung Woo-sung expressed his affection by saying, “When the director made the suggestion, I couldn’t help but think that 70-80% that I would do it. He’s also the number one director in my heart.”
