Rising Chinese actor Ziyu, who gained widespread recognition through the BL web drama Revenged Love, is now at the center of a storm of controversy. Accusations of cheating and disparaging his fans have sparked intense backlash, leading to a public apology and a sudden halt in his career.
The controversy erupted when a woman claiming to be Ziyu’s ex-girlfriend accused him of emotional manipulation and referring to fans as “sb,” a derogatory online term in Chinese. Though Ziyu quickly issued an apology and announced a temporary hiatus from entertainment, the situation only escalated.
On July 24, popular Douyin influencer “Golden Milk Bun” shared her own story, alleging Ziyu began courting her in late 2024 while hiding other romantic involvements. She described him as someone who played the victim card — blaming past management, claiming he was banned from dating, and never disclosing his active relationships. Her claims included Ziyu being intimate with a mutual friend and never showing remorse.
The final blow came when Ziyu’s largest fanclub, loyal since his idol survival show debut, announced its disbandment. In a message posted online, the fanclub stated: “If we weren’t fools, how could we have liked someone like this?”
They also revealed they had been personally insulted by Ziyu, deepening the sense of betrayal. The group had already been inactive since late 2024 and had changed their Weibo banner to “Please leave soon” long before the scandal broke.
Born in 2002, Ziyu first gained attention through idol shows like The Name of Youth and Youth With You 3, though he didn’t make the final debut lineup. His acting breakthrough came with Revenged Love in 2025, propelling him to online fame.
