On January 3, Sina reported that Zhao Lusi had become the focus of public attention after admitting to battling depression for five years and experiencing abuse from her former employer since 2019. Zhao Lusi is currently resting to recover her health.
According to Sina, Zhao Lusi’s situation has sparked widespread discussion across social media platforms. Within just one week, nearly 250 trending topics about her emerged on Weibo. While many posts expressed sympathy and curiosity, particularly after Zhao Lusi revealed she had been assaulted at the age of 21, others were malicious, mocking, and critical.

Some critics accused Zhao Lusi of exploiting her illness to gain attention, speculating that her public disclosures about her health and conflicts with her management company were calculated moves. They alleged that she aimed to stop filming and exit her current agency without incurring termination penalties.
Statistics revealed that Zhao Lusi faced up to 10,000 defamatory posts in a single week. In response, Weibo’s management team intervened, deleting numerous accounts that violated the platform’s regulations on online conduct.

Zhao Lusi’s health issues first gained attention on December 28, 2024, after news broke that she had suffered a stroke and been hospitalized. The actress later confirmed her illness, revealing she had been struggling with depression for five years. The accumulation of stress had taken a toll on her mental and physical health, leading to her collapse on set and hospitalization on December 18.

A photo captured by fans showed Zhao Lusi in a wheelchair, looking frail, slouched, pale, and requiring oxygen support. The image elicited widespread sympathy for her condition.
On December 31, 2024, Zhao Lusi released an open letter, disclosing that after rising to fame with “The Romance of Tiger and Rose,” she terminated her contract with her former agency. However, her ex-manager continued to harass her, spreading damaging rumors about her being arrogant, uneducated, and manipulative, tarnishing her reputation in the industry.

The ex-manager also demanded a large sum of hush money. Even after receiving the payment, they continued to defame Zhao Lusi, leaving her deeply hurt and unable to fight back.
These disputes contributed to Zhao Lusi’s initial mild depression, which went undiagnosed and untreated due to her hectic schedule. Over the years, she faced additional hardships, including public scrutiny, the loss of loved ones, temporary hearing loss, severe allergies, swelling, and joint pain. These challenges left her physically frail, while her worsening depression ultimately led to her breakdown.
