The tragic death of Chinese actor Yu Menglong continues to dominate headlines, with questions lingering over the exact cause of his passing.
Yu Menglong, known for his roles in Eternal Love and Go Princess Go, was confirmed dead at age 37 on September 11 after falling from a high-rise building in Beijing. According to his studio, authorities ruled out foul play but could not determine whether his death was the result of suicide or a tragic accident. This ambiguous conclusion has fueled public suspicion and widespread debate online.
On September 12, a Jiangning police officer explained the investigative outcome to QQ. “In cases like this, police focus on three possibilities: homicide, suicide, and accident. Only homicide falls under criminal investigation. Since there was no evidence of foul play, the case was closed as non-criminal. However, without sufficient proof such as a will or clear indications—we cannot officially classify it as suicide or an accident.”
Meanwhile, Yu’s family is devastated. Local media reported that his mother fainted upon receiving the heartbreaking call. Both parents, traveling from their hometown in Xinjiang, have yet to see their son’s body. Yu, the only child in his family, was known for his filial devotion, reportedly living in a small rental in Beijing while saving to buy his parents a comfortable home. His mother, a music teacher, and father had always supported his career, making his sudden death even more painful for them.
Eyewitness accounts add to the tragedy. A resident of the apartment complex in Chaoyang District told YZWB that her friend discovered his body while walking her dog early in the morning. “The dog smelled blood and ran ahead. We saw a young man lying there, blood in his mouth. Later, someone rushed to cover his face and said he was their friend,” the witness recounted. Police sealed off the scene for several hours before removing the body.
Neighbors later confirmed to reporters that they had often seen Yu spending time with friends in the complex. One elderly resident remarked, “He was such a handsome young man. His friends were all beautiful too. It’s such a terrible loss.”
Public sorrow has been compounded by the uncertainty surrounding Yu Menglong’s final moments. While police maintain there was no crime, many continue to question whether deeper truths remain hidden.
