“Those who suffer from autism…” YouTuber Misunjjang apologized after causing controversy for impersonating Woo Young-woo
A YouTuber who was embroiled in controversy for impersonating Woo Young-woo, the main character with autism spectrum disorder in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, posted an apology.
On July 20th, Misunjjang uploaded a long post on her YouTube channel’s community bulletin board. She said, “I’m sorry for causing inconvenience to many people by producing contents related to the character ‘Woo Young-woo’ with autism spectrum disorder.”
She then apologized, “In particular, I want to bow down and apologize to those who suffer from autism spectrum disorder, family members, friends and officials.”
Regarding the video, which made her embroiled in controversy, she admitted, “I produced situational contents by taking advantage of Woo Young-woo’s characteristics, but I didn’t think deeply about the fact that Woo Young-woo’s behavioral characteristics were caused by autism spectrum disorder, unlike general dramas. My fault is that I didn’t consider it enough.”
Misunjjang added, “I feel ashamed and sorry to think of those who may have been hurt by me. In the future, I’ll think and act more carefully before producing contents. Once again, I sincerely apologize.”
On July 18th, YouTuber Misunjjang uploaded videos titled “Woo Young-woo on the way to work” and “My friend… Aren’t you too immersed in Woo Young-woo?” on her YouTube channel, following Woo Young-woo’s characteristics in the drama.
After being criticized for making fun of autistic people, Misunjjang apologized through a comment, “I’m sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable. I wrote ‘Woo Young-woo disease’ because I thought it was a trend in which people imitate specific famous figures like ‘IU disease’ or ‘Chuu disease’. I was definitely wrong as I didn’t think carefully about this part.”
Currently, all of the above-mentioned videos have been taken down from Misunjjang’s YouTube channel.

I’m sorry for causing inconvenience to many people by producing contents related to the character “Woo Young-woo” with autism spectrum disorder.
