Youth and romance dramas are brightening up every household’s atmosphere through the small screen

Breaking away from thrillers and various dark genres that have dominated the drama world throughout the winter, bright-tone dramas are coming back.

In mid-February, the wind is still fierce, but spring energy has started to blow little by little during the day. Things that have retreated into themselves throughout winter are ready for new vitality by bathing under the spring sun. The same goes for the small screen. Breaking away from thrillers and various dark genres that have dominated the drama world throughout the winter, bright-toned dramas are coming back. Bright weekend dramas debuted side by side on Feb 12th, and new works that will be broadcast within February also exude the atmosphere of spring.

At 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Feb 12th, tvN and JTBC’s weekend dramas made their debut simultaneously. tvN will air “Twenty-five, Twenty-one” starring Kim Tae-ri and Nam Joo-hyuk, while JTBC will release “Forecasting Love and Weather” starring Park Min-young and Song Kang. Both works have received great attention as the follow-ups of the bloody fantasy “Bulgasal” and “Snowdrop” which emphasized the gloomy side of an era.

Both the aforementioned upcoming works emphasized a bright feeling as expected. “Twenty-five, Twenty-one” deals with the process of young people who lost their dreams due to the 1998 era but still moving forward bravely. In the industry, it was nicknamed “Reply 1998” early on because of the atmosphere and plot material that paid attention to true historical evidence.

In the first broadcast appear Na Hee-do (Kim Tae-ri), who is suffering from the misfortune of her fencing team’s disbandment due to the aftermath of the IMF bailouts and Baek Yi-jin (Nam Joo-hyuk), who was a rich young man but also fell to the bottom due to the IMF. The audience awaits their future relationship as they are to intertwined after various misunderstandings and happenings.

“Forecasting Love and Weather” depicts the romance of young men and women inside the Meteorological Administration, which has never been dealt with in dramas so far. In the first episode, Jin Ha-kyung (Park Min-young) and Lee Si-woo (Song Kang), who were in a state of engagement and love respectively, both face a breakup with their respective partner. In addition, in the trailer, they are seen as two people with conflicting styles who collide in every situation. Just as it rains when the hot air and the cold air meet, rain and wind hit their romance from the first episode.

Dramas broadcast in late February and early March are commonly plots that hide deep impressions with light comedy touch based on romance. It is worth looking forward to seeing whether the small screen, which has been down during the winter, will bloom brightly with the rising new stories.
