On the August 4 episode of YouTube variety show Jjanhanyeong with Shin Dong-yup, Yoona appeared alongside co-star Ahn Bo-hyun to promote their upcoming film Pretty Crazy. During the show, she shared the surprising story of how she became a trainee at SM Entertainment.
“There was an open audition where people lined up in front of the company building on a first-come, first-served basis,” she explained. “We’d go in, sing, dance, introduce ourselves, and then leave.”
What stood out most, however, was how unplanned her audition was. “When you bought an SM artist’s album, there was a flyer for the audition. One day, my classmate saw it and asked, ‘Who wants to go?’ I decided to tag along — and I passed on the first try.”
Yoona recalled that SM didn’t contact her immediately. “They called me a few months later and said the confirmation was delayed because of a big event. After that, I did a camera test and officially became a trainee.”
The story of her spontaneous audition adds another layer of charm to Yoona’s already remarkable career — proving that sometimes, destiny really does begin with a casual “Why not?”
