Yoo Jae-seok on the new entertainment show “The Zone: Survival Mission”, “I hope it will be loved all over the world like Squid Game…”
“National MC” Yoo Jae-seok is dreaming of making an emergency survival game like “Squid Game”. “The Zone: Survival Mission” is about to be released worldwide through Disney+.
Yoo Jae-seok, Lee Kwang-soo and Kwon Yu-ri attended the press conference for “The Zone: Survival Mission”, which was held at the Westin Josun Hotel in Sogong-ro, Junggu, Seoul.
“The Zone: Survival Mission” is a real variety program that depicts the unimaginable survival of the three representatives of mankind, Yoo Jae-seok, Lee Kwang-soo, and Kwon Yu-ri, in eight future disaster simulation zones without an escape. Starting from September 8th, the episodes will be released one after another. This is the new work by the production team of “X-Men”, “Family Outing”, “Running Man” and “Busted”.
Yoo Jae-seok is the person who came up with the idea of “The Zone: Survival Mission”. Having been doing “escaping” content on various entertainment programs, this time, he paid more attention to the opposite of “escaping”, which is “enduring”. While discussing the idea with the production team, “The Zone: Survival Mission” was created.
Yoo Jae-seok said, “I’ve been working with this team for a long time”, adding “I’ve done a lot of entertainment shows about ‘escaping’. While talking about how it would feel like to be in a situation contrary to ‘escaping’, something we have to endure, the production team began to create the plan for the show. PD Jo Hyo-jin made it well with the keywords that came out during our talks. I participated in making all parts of it, but what if I don’t appear in the program… Since it’s the program we created together, I had no choice but to join it.”
PD Jo Hyo-jin, who realized the ideas from the conversations they exchanged and created the program, emphasized that attention should be focused on the comfort and fun that the three players will show in the process of enduring the zones.
PD Jo Hyo-jin said, “Since the program was planned during the pandemic peak, we tried to stick to the rule ‘The strong is not always the one who survives. but the one who survives is the strong. So just try to hang in there’. Our everyday life is a continuation of enduring. Turning this into a more entertaining way, I planned this show”, adding “Yoo Jae-seok, Lee Kwang-soo and Kwon Yu-ri appear as representatives of mankind, but they are not superheroes like that in movies. Setting up the three with lacking sides as representatives, we hope to provide fun and comfort to the viewers while watching the process of them surviving and enduring challenges.”
In addition, Lee Kwang-soo, who used to work with Yoo Jae-seok many times, and Kwon Yu-ri, a new face who can create new chemistry, also raised fans’ high expectations for what performances they will present.
Revealing the reason why he decided to appear on the show, Lee Kwang-soo said, “The format itself was already new and fresh. Knowing that the recording must be done within 4 hours, I believed that I could have fun filming with my favorite production crew, Yoo Jae-seok, and Kwon Yu-ri.”
Kwon Yu-ri also shared, “The scale was enormous. I really like the Room Escape game, and now I’m doing it in reality. The environment in which I could immerse myself in the game attracted me. It was also good to be able to work with Yoo Jae-seok and Lee Kwang-soo. As an unfamiliar face, I think I can show you a new chemistry performance.”
In particular, the chemistry between KwangJae (Kwang-soo x Jae-seok) combination is expected to be an interesting point to attract viewers for “The Zone: Survival Mission”.
Lee Kwang-soo said, “I always feel happy and have fun filming with Yoo Jae-seok”. Yoo Jae-seok also commented, “We finally reunited after ‘Running Man’ and now we understand each other even without talking. We also get along well in our daily life. I can understand what Lee Kwang-soo does on entertainment shows and help him express it better”. Kwon Yu-ri added, “I even wondered whether Yoo Jae-seok joined in this show to tease Lee Kwang-soo. It turned out that they’re very affectionate. I could see that during the filming. They’re very nice, warm and funny.”
Yoo Jae-seok is one of the Korean entertainers who often works with OTT producers. Starting with “Busted!” in 2018, he has constantly captivated viewers around the world with OTT shows. With Disney+’s “The Zone: Survival Mission” this time, he dreams of making a global success for K-entertainment programs, hoping it would be as good as “Squid Game”.
Yoo Jae-seok shared, “This is the first time I worked with Disney+”, adding “Many K-content, such as ‘Squid Game’, have been loved by people all over the world. From the viewpoint of a person involved in entertainment, I tried OTT content many times but have not had any hit work yet. Even if it is not enough, I will try to make such a good work.”
