Yoo In-na “As soon as writer Kim Eun-sook saw me at ‘Goblin’ audition, she said ‘Yes, that’s her’”

Actress Yoo In-na shared behind-the-scenes stories from her auditions for "Secret Garden" and "Goblin" (Guardian: The Lonely and Great God)

On September 18th, actress Yoo In-na appeared as a guest on the YouTube channel “Drunken Impersonator”.

She revealed “I made my debut through ‘High Kick! Through the Roof’” and shared her audition experience, “The audition for ‘High Kick! Through the Roof’ was one that every trainee participated in. After that, I also auditioned for ‘Secret Garden’. At the time, I was so nervous that I didn’t even realize writer Kim Eun-sook was right in front of me. After my audition, many others auditioned, but I heard that after I was done, the writer said, ‘That’s it. We’ve found Ah-young.’ During the script reading, they said they found me to be quite exceptional. Ever since I was little, I loved participating in story-reading contests and anything that involved reading aloud.”

Yoo In-na, who later appeared in writer Kim Eun-sook’s “Goblin”, recounted, “Many years had passed since I auditioned for another of writer Kim Eun-sook’s works, so I was incredibly nervous. I usually don’t sweat, but after the audition, my clothes were soaked with sweat from the tension.

She continued, “There’s a line where my character says ‘Then today is our first day’ to a part-time worker. It’s a sweet line, so I delivered it sweetly, but the writer said ‘No, that’s not it’ and gave me a detailed explanation, as if my character had been through a lot. Right there, she asked me, ‘Do you want to try again?’ I tried many different ways. When it was over, the writer said ‘It was nice meeting you’, so I thought I didn’t get the part, but as soon as I left, she said, ‘Yes, that’s her.’

Yoo In-na expressed her gratitude and revealed the effort she put into perfecting her character, “I was able to play such a character because writer Kim Eun-sook chose me. I even recorded Sunny’s lines a hundred different ways, using the script and the feedback from the writers to refine the role.”
