Yoo Ah-in Investigated for Same-Sex Sexual Assault; Drug Case Verdict Expected Next Month

On August 12, a representative from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency revealed at a regular press briefing in Jongno, Seoul, that they had conducted evidence collection, including a sexual assault evidence kit and urine tests, for the alleged victim who filed the complaint. The police also completed interviews with related individuals, including a woman who was present, the person who provided the residence, and a taxi driver.

The police are now coordinating with Yoo Ah-in‘s legal team to schedule his appearance for questioning.

Last month, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul charged Yoo Ah-in with quasi-rape. The accuser, identified as “A,” claims that Yoo Ah-in sexually assaulted him while he was asleep at an officetel in Yongsan District on July 14. According to current law, same-sex sexual assaults are charged under the quasi-rape statute.

At the time of the alleged incident, it was reported that only three people were present: the accuser A, the property owner B, and Yoo Ah-in. The police stated that A has consistently identified Yoo Ah-in as the assailant.

Before the incident, Yoo Ah-in and B were reportedly not close, merely acquaintances. A reportedly told the police, “After having drinks together nearby, we moved to one of the attendees’ homes for a second round of drinking. Yoo Ah-in then inserted his private parts into my body.”

Given that Yoo Ah-in is currently on trial for habitual drug use, the police plan to investigate all possible angles. The initial drug test conducted on A returned a negative result.

Additionally, Yoo Ah-in is currently on trial for allegedly using medical propofol over 181 times under the guise of cosmetic procedures between September 2020 and March 2022 at various hospitals in Seoul. The prosecution has requested a four-year prison sentence, and the verdict for this case is scheduled for September 3.
