On August 8, Red Velvet’s youngest member, Yeri, appeared on Hyeri’s popular YouTube program, Hyell’s Club, where she shared candid details about the emotional night her contract with SM Entertainment expired.

During the interview, Yeri revealed that she and her current manager share similar personalities, which helped them build a good relationship. This naturally led to a discussion about changing agencies, and Hyeri expressed understanding about the pressure idols feel during such major career moves.
“At that time, I really felt like I was finally standing on my own,” Hyeri shared, recalling her own experience with agency changes. When asked about her own transition, Yeri said, “Initially, I expected not to have a big reaction to the change due to my mellow personality.”

However, Yeri admitted that “as things started getting closer,” her emotions shifted. The end of her SM contract coincided with the completion of her drama filming. “I hadn’t taken any meetings during that time,” she said, explaining that she struggled to multitask and had no chance to plan ahead.
Right after finishing her drama, Yeri had to rush through all the agency transfer procedures. “It became stressful,” she confessed, adding, “I was crying a lot while drinking makgeoli.”

The pressure built to a breaking point. “Since it was my choice, I had to make the decision and all that,” Yeri recalled, admitting that she underestimated how emotionally difficult the process would be. Fortunately, she had supportive people around her to lean on.
Despite the hardships, Yeri expressed satisfaction with her current agency and optimism for her future career. Her honest reflections provide a rare glimpse into the mental and emotional challenges K-pop idols face behind the scenes during career changes.
