On March 16, top Chinese actress Yao Chen shared a public statement confirming the end of their marriage, explaining that she chose to keep the matter private to protect her children. “I wanted to protect the family and provide a stable environment for the children to grow up in,” she stated.

Despite the end of their marital relationship, Yao Chen emphasized that the two remain on good terms. “Although our relationship as a married couple has ended, we still share precious memories of running an art film company together. We have now decided to remain as friends, like family.”

Yao Chen and Cao Yu first met in 2011 while working on the film Love in Color. Their relationship quickly progressed, and they held a private wedding in New Zealand in November 2012. The couple later welcomed two children, a son in 2013 and a daughter in 2016, and also co-founded a film production company, actively supporting art-house cinema.
Over the years, they were frequently seen attending award ceremonies together and were widely regarded as one of the industry’s “model couples.” Before her marriage to Cao Yu, Yao Chen was previously married to actor Ling Xiao Su.

The two met as classmates at the Beijing Film Academy and married shortly after graduation. However, their relationship ended abruptly in 2011, accompanied by public controversy. At the time, accusations of infidelity surfaced, and Ling Xiao Su reportedly made harsh comments about their relationship, further fueling media attention.
Born in 1979, Yao Chen remains one of China’s most influential actresses. Known for her confident image and strong screen presence, she has earned widespread acclaim for roles in works such as My Own Swordsman and Latent.
