yang se chan electrocution cancer

South Korean comedian and Running Man cast member Yang Se Chan has shared two of the most difficult experiences of his life, revealing that he once narrowly survived a severe electric shock and has been battling thyroid cancer for more than a decade. His candid confessions have touched many fans, who praised his resilience and positive outlook despite years of health struggles.

According to The Chosun Ilbo on July 18, Yang Se Chan appeared as a guest on the YouTube channel Giyu TV, where he spoke publicly for the first time about an accident that nearly claimed his life.

Recalling the terrifying incident, the 1986-born entertainer said, “I stuck a pair of chopsticks into an electrical outlet. People usually think it would just make a sparking sound, right? But in my case, there was a loud crack, followed by an explosion. After that, I don’t remember anything.”

When asked whether he suffered serious injuries, Yang admitted that he has little memory of what happened after the explosion. “I only know that I lost consciousness,” he said. “The fear from that experience has stayed with me ever since. Even now, I’m afraid to plug anything into an electrical outlet.”

Yang Se Chan had previously spoken about another major challenge in his life during an appearance on Problem Child in House, where he revealed that he has been living with papillary thyroid cancer for more than 10 years. Despite receiving treatment, he continues to take medication to manage the condition.

The comedian explained that the disease was first discovered during a routine health examination in 2013. “I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer over 10 years ago,” he recalled. “At the time, several comedians and I went for a medical check-up together. I was practicing for Comedy Big League when the hospital called with the results. I didn’t even have time to feel sad. My fellow comedians encouraged me and helped me stay strong.”

Yang also shared that persistent fatigue was one of the warning signs he experienced before his diagnosis. “There was one time when I slept for 10 straight hours before going to work, but I still couldn’t stop yawning,” he said. “That was my body’s way of telling me something was wrong.”

His revelation about living with thyroid cancer quickly became a widely discussed topic on Korean social media, with many fans expressing hope that he will one day make a full recovery and no longer need medication.

Born in 1986, Yang Se Chan entered the entertainment industry at the age of 19. He first gained recognition through the comedy program People Looking for a Laugh before building his reputation on the hit sketch show Comedy Big League.

In April 2017, he joined SBS’s long-running variety show Running Man as an official cast member, a role that significantly boosted his popularity across Asia. In addition to Running Man, he has become a familiar face on numerous Korean variety programs.

Throughout the years, Yang Se Chan has continued to entertain audiences with his trademark humor and optimism, maintaining a positive attitude while quietly managing his long-term battle with thyroid cancer. His recent revelations have offered fans a deeper look into the hardships he has overcome behind the scenes.
