On August 2, actor and rapper Yang Dong-geun posted a shocking image showing the word “fool” (in a derogatory term) written on his forehead and middle-finger illustrations drawn on his cheeks. Alongside the photo, he wrote, “I must be a fool for trusting you,” and added, “Go ahead and be disappointed, say whatever you want. You have the right to. But it’s a bit too much for me to go kill myself, isn’t it?”
The post came in response to public criticism over his appearance at the 2025 Summer Camp , hosted by Segyero Church and led by conservative pastor Son Hyun-bo — a figure known for defending martial law and opposing the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol . The event also featured prominent right-wing figures, including former Minister Kim Moon-soo , Dr. Cho Pyeong-se, and Professor Son Young-kwang.

While some netizens defended Yang Dong-geun under the umbrella of religious freedom, others were quick to denounce his association with a church that supports extreme conservative ideologies.
Yang Dong-geun later posted a video from the event, writing, “It was such a graceful time 😭 (Even the T-shirt had Jesus on it),” which further fueled political speculation.
In response, his agency Joe Entertainment released a statement clarifying, “Yang Dong-geun’s participation was solely based on religious faith and has no connection to any political stance.”
However, the damage had already been done. Public reaction was divided, with many voicing disappointment over his handling of the situation:
- He’s mocking the fans who criticized him.
- Religious belief is one thing, but associating with a pro-martial law group and responding this way is unacceptable.
- Mentioning suicide and using his child’s image in such a post is disturbing.

Still, others rallied to his defense:
- He didn’t directly endorse martial law.
- Why are we so quick to cancel celebrities?
- This isn’t that serious.
As of now, Yang Dong-geun remains silent on whether he will further address the issue.
