On September 8, fresh developments emerged in the scandal involving Xu Lisha, Xu Kai, and Zhao Qing. Xu Kai was accused of turning a villa in Hengdian into a gambling den. A leaked chat allegedly between Xu Kai and Xu Lisha circulated online, in which Xu Kai boasted about winning 8,000 RMB from gambling and asked a friend to transfer 6,000 RMB to Xu Lisha while instructing her to keep it secret.
The 1995-born actor was also accused of belonging to a group of friends addicted to gambling, allegedly playing high-stakes games involving tens of thousands of RMB at a time, with annual amounts reaching millions. Chinese authorities confirmed they were aware of the matter and would launch an investigation. Meanwhile, Xu Kai’s representatives strongly denied the allegations and announced they were working with lawyers to counter what they described as baseless rumors.
The controversy has already taken a toll. On the evening of September 8, producer Chen Yitao revealed Xu Kai had been replaced in a drama set to begin filming at the end of the month. The producer even pleaded with Xu Lisha to stop her exposés so that other productions involving Xu Kai would not suffer further disruption.
The trio’s entangled love life has also drawn attention. In early August, Xu Lisha claimed Xu Kai cheated on her with young actress Zhao Qing in 2022, while still in a relationship with her. She alleged the two were spotted entering a hotel together, which led to their breakup. The feud quickly escalated online, with Xu Lisha releasing photos and chat screenshots to prove she dated Xu Kai. She declared she would “fight to the end” until he issued a public apology. On September 8, after two weeks of silence, she reignited the dispute, writing: “I’ve endured cyberbullying long enough. I gave Xu Kai a chance to apologize, but everything that happens now is his own choice. I don’t want a penny—only a sincere apology.”
