As top European clubs gear up for the new season, one high-profile name remains noticeably absent from the sidelines: Xavi Hernandez. Since parting ways with Barcelona, the legendary midfielder-turned-coach has yet to secure his next managerial role.

Despite being linked with clubs such as AC Milan, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen, and Manchester United, Xavi has not taken up any offers.

According to Spanish media, the 44-year-old is intentionally holding out for a serious, long-term project—not just a quick fix or short-term appointment.

“Premier League is my number one priority,” Xavi told The Athletic. “I’m not in a rush, but I want a project that says: ‘You have four years to build.’ In Spain, everything revolves around results. No one thinks long-term.”

However, with managerial roles across the Premier League and other top leagues already filled, his options appear limited for now.

A return to Qatar, where he began his coaching journey, or a big-money move to Saudi Arabia, where European managers are in high demand, could be on the table. Over a year since leaving Barcelona, Xavi continues to wait for the right opportunity.

His determination to shape a legacy, rather than chase immediate results, suggests that his comeback—when it does happen—will be deeply calculated.
