“Nation’s First Love” Suzy is returning to the small screen
Netflix’s original series “Doona!”, starring Suzy as the female lead, will finally premiere on October 20th. Prior to the release date, a press conference for the drama will be held at 11 a.m. on the 18th.
“Doona!” is a webtoon-based romance drama about ordinary college student Lee Won-joon (Yang Se-jong) meeting retired K-pop idol Doona (Suzy) at a shared house. This is a new series by director Lee Jung-hyo, who was behind various famous works, such as “Crash Landing on You”, “Romance Is a Bonus Book”, “Life on Mars”, etc.
Ever since Suzy confirmed her appearance in “Doona!”, drama fans have been raising high expectations. Many people believe that Suzy, who actually debuted as a member of the popular K-pop idol group Miss A, would portray the role of idol singer Doona perfectly. The description of Doona’s outstanding beauty is also said to suit Suzy so well.
As such, anticipation for “Doona!” is rising with the release of its trailer. The video begins with Suzy’s line “Won-joon, I won’t fall for you” and showcases Suzy’s perfect transformation into Doona. Another point that keeps fans waiting to watch “Doona!” is that this is Suzy’s comeback with a youth romance after a long time.
In 2012, Suzy played university student Seoyeon, who is pure and honest in love, in the film “Architecture 101” and received the nickname “Nation’s First Love”. Back then, she received favorable reviews for her portrayal of the trembling feelings of a girl in front of her first love and her excellent chemistry with actor Lee Je-hoon. With this film, Suzy even won Best New Actress at the 48th Baeksang Arts Awards.
As such, fans are looking forward to Suzy’s performance in a new youth romance with the character Doona, which has a completely different image compared to “Architecture 101” Seoyeon.
Regarding Doona and Won-joon’s relationship in the drama, director Lee said, “Doona is not good at expressing herself, while Won-joon cannot understand Donna. The process of Won-joon getting to know Doona will be shown through Won-joon’s perspective”. Suzy also shared, “Doona approaches Won-joon because she wants to get closer to him and make friends with him, then she begins to test his heart little by little in her own way”.
