On August 16th, KBS said to Daily Sports, “We haven’t decided on whether to hold a Broadcasting Appearance Review Committee for BTS’s Suga”.
Through the Broadcasting Appearance Restriction Review Committee, KBS restricts the appearances of individuals who have committed illegal acts or caused social controversies. Specifically, the committee will be held in cases involving “being booked and arrested by police, or sentenced to prison or probation”, “military service evasion,” “habitual drug use and marijuana smoking”, “fraud, theft, gambling”, “assaults and sexual scandals”, and “acts that violate public morals and social order”.
If the committee judges that the individual in question has caused a problem, they may impose measures such as issuing “recommendation to refrain from casting”, “temporary ban on appearance (in cases of people being civil or criminal prosecuted)”, or “broadcasting appearance restriction” depending on the severity of the matter.
Earlier, KBS banned Kim Sae-ron from appearing on their broadcasts after the actress caused a drunk driving accident with a blood alcohol concentration level was 0.2% in 2022. Kwak Do-won, whose blood alcohol concentration level was 0.158% at the time of his drunk driving issue, was also banned from showing up on KBS.
Suga was found riding an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul on August 6th. He was booked by the police on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act. His blood alcohol concentration level was measured at 0.227%, which was high enough for his license to be revoked.
Suga’s blood alcohol concentration level is much higher than that of Kim Sae-ron and Kwak Do-won. Therefore, it is inevitable that KBS would ban his appearance. In this case, Suga will not be able to join BTS when they promote on KBS or his face will be censored on the screen.
