Why Cha Tae-hyun and Jo In-sung Went to the U.S. Revealed Amid “Unexpected Business 3” Controversy

Questions continue to be raised against “Unexpected Business 3” after the show’s “hygiene controversy”

While tvN’s entertainment show “Unexpected Business 3” achieved its highest viewership ratings, it unexpectedly became embroiled in controversy over hygiene issues. During this process, there were criticisms about discomfort in language communication between the bosses and part-time workers, with questions like, “Did they really have to go to a Korean market in the U.S.?” being raised.

However, the reason behind this trip has been revealed in an actual letter shared by Ryu Ho-jin PD with the team members. In the letter, Ryu Ho-jin PD expressed his sincere thoughts and the planning intentions for “Unexpected Business 3” before the U.S. shoot.

Unexpected Business

In particular, Ryu Ho-jin PD mentioned the rural area where the Korean market operated by Cha Tae-hyun and Jo In-sung for ten days is located. According to him, this area, Marina, traces back to the early 1970s in the infancy of immigration, and a Korean community was eventually formed in such a town.

Ryu Ho-jin PD stated, “As of 2023, there are not many first-generation immigrants left in Marina. Most are elderly, and many have left this world. In such a place, an elderly boss manages a Korean supermarket crucial to the town, operating seven days a week. For $2, you can get a gimbap, along with homemade kimchi and side dishes. Thanks to this store, Koreans and Asians here can eat hometown food.”

He expressed regret, “24 years ago, the boss inherited this store from another Korean adult. Ironically, they couldn’t decide to whom they should pass on the store. They will soon turn 70.”

He continued, “Not everything needs to exist in the same place forever. However, if someone remembers that something or someone existed somewhere, wouldn’t that be a great comfort?

Unexpected Business

According to broadcasting officials, “Unexpected Business 3” consists of a total of 13 episodes, and in the upcoming episodes, the real reason for going to the United States and the PD’s planning intentions will be revealed.

In addition, PD Ryu Ho-jin added that he hopes to successfully conclude Season 3, which he has worked hard to prepare.

He concluded his letter, “Even foreigners now wait at the mart counter for a long time to buy kimchi if it runs out. The past 60 years have changed many things. What era are we living in now? What should we be grateful to those who have passed, and what should we give to those who will come in the future? I pray that our season, which will undoubtedly be tough, will be a meaningful conclusion to the work we have done so far.
