August 13th is “Kaidan (Ghost Story) Day”. This special day was established to commemorate the 20th consecutive year of the event “MYSTERY NIGHT TOUR Junji Inagawa’s Kaidan Night.” August 13th is the date of the first performance in 1993.

During the hot summer, people often seek relief by watching spine-chilling horror anime. Whether it’s being caught up in supernatural phenomena, being targeted by mysterious figures, or having the protagonist possess psychic abilities, the appeal of horror anime varies from work to work.

Therefore, Anime! Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “What’s Your Favorite Horror Anime?” for the second year in a row. We received responses from 60 people during the survey period from August 5th to August 7th. Approximately 35% of respondents were male, 60% were female, and 5% did not specify their gender. The age range was approximately 25% under 19 years old, 30% in their 20s, and 25% in their 30s.

Titles That Cool You Down in the Heat!

1st Place

Mieruko-chan: With a support rate of approximately 17%, it topped the list for the third consecutive year.
Based on the manga serialized in “WebComic Appanda,” the story follows Miko Yotsuya, a protagonist who ignores the strange and terrifying encounters she has. This is a new sensation horror comedy.

2nd Place

Gegege no Kitaro: With a support rate of approximately 9%, it ranked up from the joint 4th place last year.

3rd Place

Kaidan Restaurant and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni tied for 3rd place.

In the 2024 edition, the top spot remained unchanged, but the rankings below the 2nd place shifted. Titles with new anime productions or theatrical releases also ranked in.
