Chinese actress Wang Likun, known as the “Golden Hour Beauty” of Chinese television, has been caught in the fallout of her husband Zhan Haoli’s arrest for orchestrating a massive fraud scheme affecting over 200 victims and totaling approximately 1.15 billion USD.

Following the arrest in February 2023, top brands—including Dior—cut advertising contracts with Wang Likun, prompting her to close social media accounts amid public scrutiny. Authorities alleged she may have been complicit, accusing her of concealing economic crimes and benefiting from her husband’s illicit wealth.

Reports indicate Zhan Haoli showered Wang Likun with luxury gifts—including a 47 million CNY villa (~6.6 million USD) and a Rolls-Royce Phantom worth $1.4 million USD—to win her heart and marry her just months after dating. After multiple accusations from victims, Wang Likun was summoned for questioning, and authorities confiscated the villa and luxury vehicles pending investigation.

During questioning, Wang Likun denied any involvement in her husband’s illegal activities, asserting she was unaware of his financial crimes and did not knowingly benefit from them. She submitted a personal asset declaration showing sole ownership of a Beijing apartment purchased in 2011 and a single MPV, confirming all personal property predated the marriage.

Authorities cleared Wang Likun of direct involvement, allowing her to retain her career in showbiz and resume acting and public appearances. Following the ordeal, she quickly initiated divorce proceedings, aiming to protect her personal assets and reputation, while expressing regret over not fully vetting her husband before marriage.

Born in 1985, Wang Likun is celebrated as the “bare-faced goddess” of Chinese entertainment. She has starred in iconic primetime dramas such as Beauty’s Rival in Palace, Martial Universe, and Seven Swordsmen. Wang Likun and Zhan Haoli secretly married in 2019, rarely sharing her husband publicly aside from showcasing extravagant gifts that reflected a lavish lifestyle.

Despite the controversy, Wang Likun is now cleared of wrongdoing and moving forward with her career and personal life, marking a dramatic chapter in her life as she distances herself from her husband’s criminal legacy.
