During their appearance at the “fashion’s biggest night”, Vogue took a picture of Cai Xu Kun and posted on their official Instagram account. However, the personnel in charge of the social media apartment apparently tagged Jackson Wang in the post, and not Cai Xu Kun, and left the caption: “@jacksonwang852g7 shows us how to pose on the 2023 Met Gala red carpet”.
Asian audience was particularly taken aback by Vogue’s confusing social media post. Netizens firmly believed Jackson Wang and Cai Xu Kun shared few physical similarities, so the action from Vogue was supposedly “racially motivated”. Amid the backlash, the magazine fixed the caption and retagged Cai Xu Kun under their post about him.
