Unique 5th Gen Girl Group: Most Members Expelled from School Before Debut

Over half of the members in girl group QWER opened up about their journey, from being kicked out of school to becoming idols.

YouTuber Mimi Minu (also known as MMMN) recently hosted an episode of “Is This Song Popular 2”, featuring a rookie group, QWER, who had previously appeared on the show’s first season.

In this episode, Mimi Minu engaged the group members: Chodan, Magenta, Siyeon, and Hina in a game session and an in-depth interview, where they shared details about their educational backgrounds and personal stories leading up to their debut.

QWER made their debut on October 18, 2023, with their first single album, “Harmony from Discord”. During the interview, Magenta revealed her initial goal of enrolling at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, which didn’t pan out due to her test scores. Instead, she attended Kyungpook National University but did not complete her degree. Mimi Minu humorously pointed this out, leading to the revelation that Magenta left school after discovering the financial challenges in pursuing a career in the arts. She shifted her focus to modeling and working as an influencer but was eventually dismissed from her university.

Hina, another member, shared a similar experience. Though her passion for music sparked in high school, her teachers and mother encouraged her to pursue a more stable career. With a background in travel, she studied to become a flight attendant while also pursuing music at university. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic led her to take a leave of absence. During this time, Hina found success on social media, and her leave kept extending until the university no longer allowed it, resulting in her dismissal as well.

In a surprising turn, Chodan revealed that she had also been dismissed from her school, leaving Siyeon as the only exception. However, even Siyeon didn’t complete her education, she dropped out before finishing her degree.
