Unexpected twist at “2023 SBS Drama Awards”: Joint Grand Prize for “close match” Kim Tae-ri and Lee Je-hoon

On Dec 29th, the “2023 SBS Drama Awards” was held at SBS Prism Tower in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Broadcaster Shin Dong-yup and actress Kim Yoo-jung served as hosts.

The candidates for the Grand Prize included Lee Je-hoon of “Taxi Driver 2”, Han Suk-kyu of “Dr. Romantic 3”, Kim Tae-ri of “Revenant” and Kim Rae-won of “The First Responders 2”.

Contrary to expectations that one of the four would win, SBS decided to award a joint Grand Prize, stating that it was a close match.

Studio S’s CEO Han Jung-hwan, who appeared as a presenter with actor Kim Nam-gil, mentioned the intense discussions among the judges and the difficulty in making a choice.

The joint award was a surprise, reminiscent of the previous year when “Through the Darkness” Kim Nam-gil won the Grand Prize at the SBS Drama Awards instead of “One Dollar Lawyer” Namkoong Min.

After the joint announcement, Kim Tae-ri and Lee Je-hoon even played rock-paper-scissors to determine the order of their acceptance speeches.

Kim Tae-ri expressed her gratitude for the challenging but rewarding work and thanked her colleagues and the viewers. She emphasized that the process was more precious than the result.

Lee Je-hoon, expressing his gratitude for being able to do the second season for “Taxi Driver” and the weight of the role he played, dedicated the award to those who have experienced injustice. He also paid tribute to the late Lee Sun-kyun, calling him a role model.

The joint Grand Prize at the SBS Drama Awards, following the previous year’s unexpected outcome, added another layer of unpredictability to the event.
