Chinese social media has been rocked by disturbing reports surrounding a man identified by the surname Jiao, and known online as “Uncle Red” who allegedly lured young men to his residence under false pretenses, engaged in sexual acts, and secretly recorded them for commercial distribution.

The 38-year-old suspect from Nanjing is said to have invited over 1,600 men to his home over the span of three years. According to unverified reports, he collected as many as 6,000 explicit videos, which were then sold to third parties at approximately 150 yuan (about $21 USD) per video. If these figures are accurate, the suspect may have earned between 253,000 and over 990,000 yuan (up to $138,000 USD).

However, on July 8, authorities stated that the viral statistics have not been officially verified, though they confirmed Xiao had engaged in sexual activity with numerous men. He is currently in detention while being investigated on multiple charges, including dissemination of obscene materials for profit, extortion, and potentially endangering public safety.

Under Chinese criminal law, if explicit content is distributed to more than 300–600 individuals or causes serious social disruption, the offender may face up to two years in prison. If more than 100 videos are distributed, sentences can range from two to seven years. Moreover, if it is proven that Xiao knowingly carried HIV or other STDs and engaged in unprotected sex, he may be prosecuted under laws governing public safety an offense that carries penalties of up to life imprisonment or even the death penalty.

A disturbing aspect of the case is Xiao’s alleged tactic of requesting small household items like cooking oil, fresh milk, or fruit in exchange for meetings, making encounters appear casual or low-cost. In reality, these gestures were part of a calculated deception.

The case has not yet reached a final legal conclusion, but authorities emphasize that severe punishment will be imposed if the allegations are confirmed.

The incident serves as a critical warning about online anonymity and digital exploitation. It reminds the public that the internet is not a lawless space, and illegal profiteering through personal violations will be met with strict legal action. It also highlights the importance of verifying information and maintaining personal safety in all online interactions.
