The upcoming tvN weekend drama Typhoon Family was officially introduced on October 1 at a press conference held at The Link Hotel in Guro, Seoul, with director Lee Na-jung, actor Lee Junho, and actress Kim Min-ha in attendance. Hosted by broadcaster Park Kyung-lim, the event highlighted the drama’s heartfelt message about overcoming hardship during one of South Korea’s most difficult eras.
Typhoon Family revisits the struggles of ordinary people during the 1997 Asian financial crisis, when many Koreans faced bankruptcy and despair. The drama follows Kang Tae-poong (Lee Junho), a privileged young man who suddenly becomes the head of a bankrupt trading company with no money, no staff, and nothing left to sell. Through his fight for survival, the series seeks to revive both the nostalgia and resilience of that era, delivering warmth and comfort to modern-day audiences going through their own struggles.
Director Lee Na-jung emphasized the importance of authenticity, sharing that she visited real locations from 1997, recreated office spaces, and incorporated period-accurate props. She explained that despite the hardships of the IMF crisis, those who lived through it recalled the period with shining eyes, filled with energy and determination—a spirit the drama aims to capture.
Lee Junho, who recently launched his own management company, found deep resonance with his character. “After starting my own agency, I felt a strong connection with Tae-poong, who also had to suddenly take on responsibility,” he shared. “The script felt both warm and realistic, balancing hope with sorrow. It inspired me to put everything into the role.” Director Lee praised Junho’s versatility, calling him “charming, lovable, and impressive” in his portrayal.
Kim Min-ha plays Oh Mi-sun, a resourceful daughter and ace bookkeeper supporting her family. Drawn to the script’s warmth, she revealed that she studied hairstyles, speech, and cultural details of the late 1990s to embody her role authentically. Director Lee highlighted how Kim naturally captured the atmosphere of the era, making her an essential addition to the cast.

Both leads praised each other’s chemistry. Junho described their dynamic as a “perfect balance of spontaneity and logic,” noting how their ad-libbing brought natural humor and depth to the story. Kim echoed the sentiment, saying, “Our synergy made unexpected moments shine on screen. I felt supported and inspired throughout.”
As the drama prepares to premiere on October 11 at 9:10 p.m., Typhoon Family promises to deliver not only nostalgia but also heartfelt reflections on perseverance, reminding viewers of the value of youth, hope, and resilience.
