A recent coffee commercial has become the center of a plagiarism controversy after fans pointed out similarities to Tomorrow X Togetherโs music video for Nap of a Star, prompting the original director to publicly speak out.
The controversy began after a commercial featuring NCT WISH was released on April 4. Shortly after, fans of Tomorrow X Together raised concerns that the advertisement bore striking similarities to the concept and visuals of Nap of a Star, originally released in 2019. As comparisons spread online, the issue quickly gained traction, with side-by-side visuals circulating across social media platforms.
Sung Won Mo, the director behind the original music video and a member of Digipedi, addressed the controversy directly on April 9. โLetโs just not plagiarize. Iโm posting this so people can criticize it,โ he wrote, sharing captured images comparing the two works. He added that this was not the first time his work had been copied, stating that similar incidents had occurred previously but were overlooked.
Despite expressing frustration, Sung Won Mo clarified that he did not feel personally harmed. โTo be honest, I donโt feel that bad. If they used it, it means it looked good. It doesnโt directly harm me,โ he explained. However, he emphasized that the real issue lies in the broader impact, noting that such actions could harm models, companies, and original copyright holders simultaneously.

He further pointed to deeper structural problems within the industry, suggesting that repeated plagiarism cases stem from systemic issues rather than isolated incidents. His remarks highlighted growing concerns about creative integrity across advertising and entertainment sectors, including K-pop.
As the controversy intensified, the coffee brand at the center of the issue reportedly closed the comment section on the advertisement video as of April 10, without releasing an official statement addressing the allegations.
