During the Chuseok holiday, an online community post alleged that Huening Kai had been spotted drinking late into the night with a woman before leaving together in a car. The uploader claimed, “They drank until dawn, and the woman wasn’t family,” sparking suspicions of a relationship.
In the early hours of October 10, Huening Kai took to the fan communication platform Weverse to issue his own explanation. He wrote, “I feel really sorry to MOA, and I don’t see any reason to avoid this, so I’ll just say it directly.” He explained that the woman was “just an acquaintance” and that he only accompanied her because “it wasn’t right to leave her alone in that situation.” He added that due to the holiday closures, they ended up at one of the few remaining open places before he immediately returned to his dorm.
Huening Kai continued, “Since debut, I’ve hated causing trouble for my members, and I’ve always been a homebody. I rarely go out, but since it had been a while, I met an old acquaintance. Once I was in that situation, I kept thinking about what to do. I dislike lying, so I just wanted to be honest.”
The idol expressed regret to both his members and fans: “I want to focus more on my work and on MOA. I wanted to become someone you could trust, but I feel like I failed to give that reassurance this time. I’m really sorry for making MOA worry and feel uncomfortable. To me, my members, MOA, and my family come first before myself.”
