TWICE Praised for Live Singing Amid LE SSERAFIM’s “Encore Controversy”

Netizens are showing contrasting opinions to the live singing of 2 K-pop girl groups - TWICE and LE SSERAFIM.

Although being one of the top girl groups of the 3rd Generation, TWICE has always been a subject of debate regarding the live singing abilities of its members. Especially after the “disastrous” encore of “More & More”, the group gradually lost favor with the audience. Even if TWICE has been praised for improvement in live singing later on, the prejudices from the past still stick to the nine girls.

In their latest comeback with the 13th mini-album “With YOU-th”, TWICE released 2 MVs for “I Got You” and “One Spark”. After promoting in the US, TWICE had their first week back on the domestic stage to promote “With YOU-th”. Presenting 2 title tracks, TWICE unexpectedly received compliments for significant improvement in live singing.

Particularly, members who previously sparked debates such as Sana and Tzuyu received many praises, and Momo, whose voice was criticized for being “ear-piercing”, also did not get criticized.

However, netizens still express regrets about Mina, who has a good voice but seems to cannot sing clearly enough.

Below are some comments from netizens:

  • Mina’s singing style feels a bit constrained, like she just won’t open her mouth properly
  • Her voice is good, but her mouth seems to be tightly closed even when singing.
  • Mina’s voice is nice, but her mouth shape while singing seems a bit tense, it makes the singing lacks volume and clarity

On the other hand, some netizens also make comparisons of TWICE’s latest singing to LE SSERAFIM, who recently got criticized for poor vocals during an encore performance.
