TWICE, First Overseas Female Artist to Enter Japan’s Nissan Stadium: “A Time Filled with Happiness”

TWICE has added a significant milestone to K-pop history by becoming the first overseas female artist to perform at Japan’s Nissan Stadium

On July 28, TWICE’s official account posted, “Our first live performance at Nissan Stadium ended in a special way. Performing at the dream venue of Nissan Stadium was a happy time thanks to ONCE (TWICE’s official fandom). We are curious how you all felt. We could come this far thanks to ONCE,” along with a photo.

As part of their 5th world tour “READY TO BE,” TWICE held a solo concert at Nissan Stadium on July 27.

Nissan Stadium is considered a “dream stage,” the largest stadium in Japan, known for hosting only a select few teams each year due to its massive audience capacity requirements. TWICE’s performance at Nissan Stadium is a remarkable achievement, expanding the audience size by about ten times compared to their July 2, 2017, performance at Tokyo Gymnasium.

TWICE debuted in October 2015 with the song “OOH-AHH하게” (Like OOH-AHH) and has since produced numerous hits, enjoying widespread love for a long time. Over the past nine years, they have shined globally, sweeping various international awards including the 2023 Billboard Women In Music Awards.

In 2024, marking their 10th year in the industry, TWICE continues to solidify their status as a “global top girl group” by adding notable records such as having the most music videos with over 100 million views for a female group and reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with their first comeback of 2024, “With YOU-th.”

TWICE met numerous global fans and drove their popularity through their largest-scale world tour, “TWICE 5TH WORLD TOUR ‘READY TO BE,’” which began in Seoul in April 2023. This tour included performances at major venues in Japan, North America, Australia, Europe, Southeast Asia, and South America, establishing their reputation as a “stadium artist.” Notably, they performed at Nissan Stadium in Kanagawa, Japan, on July 27 and 28, making them the first K-pop girl group and the first overseas female artist to enter this venue.

Since their official Japanese debut on June 28, 2017, with the best album “#TWICE,” TWICE has dominated major charts like Oricon, Tower Records, and Billboard Japan. Their albums have repeatedly received Platinum certifications from the Japan Record Association, and they have attracted significant public attention since their debut.

Starting in 2018, TWICE won various categories at the Japan Gold Disc Awards for three consecutive years. They achieved significant success with their third single “Wake Me Up” in 2018, winning the Excellent Work Award at the Japan Record Awards. With their bright, healthy energy and charm-filled discography, they have achieved impressive results, including surpassing 20 million cumulative album sales in Japan and Korea as of May this year.

TWICE drew about 15,000 spectators for two performances at Tokyo Gymnasium during their official debut showcase in July 2017. In September 2018, they embarked on their first arena tour in Japan, achieving rapid entry into arena venues within about a year of their official debut.

In March 2019, TWICE became the first K-pop girl group to conduct a Japan dome tour with “TWICE DOME TOUR 2019 ‘#Dreamday,’” attracting about 220,000 spectators across Kyocera Dome Osaka, Tokyo Dome, and Vantelin Nagoya Dome. They proved their immense popularity by selling out three solo concerts at Tokyo Dome during their fourth world tour “TWICE 4TH WORLD TOUR ‘Ⅲ’” in April 2022.

Through their large-scale world tour covering 51 shows in 27 regions worldwide, TWICE has achieved remarkable success as a “global stadium headliner.” In June and July 2023, they made history as the first female group to perform at and sell out major stadiums in the US, including SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and MetLife Stadium in New York. They attracted a total of 250,000 spectators across 13 shows in 9 regions in North America, proving their global presence.

In November 2023, TWICE became the first K-pop group to hold a solo concert at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. In February 2024, they became the first K-pop girl group to sell out a show at Allianz Parque in São Paulo, Brazil. TWICE also performed at major stadiums such as Jakarta International Stadium in Indonesia, Foro Sol in Mexico City, Mexico, and Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, USA, further solidifying their status as a “stadium artist.”
