According to Good Data Corporation, tvN’s Mon-Tue drama “Lovely Runner” topped the popularity chart in the second week of May, taking first place for the second consecutive time. The drama is the most popular among viewers in their 20s and 30s.
Airing its first episode on April 8th, “Lovely Runner” has continuously broken its record for four consecutive weeks. Lead actors Byun Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon also ranked No.1 and No.2 in the popularity chart for drama cast for two weeks in a row, while actor Song Geon-hee, who plays the second male lead, placed No.3.
In the general chart, tvN’s “Queen of Tears” ranked No.5 with 71,412 points accumulated in 8 weeks, while “Lovely Runner” rose to No.9 with 68,248 points after 5 weeks of broadcasting.
Good Data PD Won Soon-woo analyzed, “The drama has already received good reviews for its emotional directing, refreshing story, Kim Hye-yoon’s excellent acting and OSTs. With the emergence of a new star named Byun Woo-seok, netizens’ reactions have been heated up even more”, adding “If the story shifts from focusing on Byun Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon to the main characters’ families and friends, it could attract more male viewers and rise higher in terms of popularity and viewership”.
JTBC’s “The Atypical Family” ranked second place on Good Data’s popularity chart this week. Compared to last week, the drama’s first broadcasting week, it showed a significant increase of 53.6%. Chun Woo-hee and Jang Ki-yong also ranked No.5 and No.6, respectively, on the chart for drama cast.
tvN’s new Sat-Sun drama “A Midnight Romance in Hagwon” came in third place. The leading actors Jung Ryeo-won and Wi Ha-joon also placed No.4 and No.7 in the cast popularity chart. Other actors on the chart were “Frankly Speaking” Go Kyung-pyo and Kang Ha-na in No.8 and No.9 as well as “Beauty And Mr. Romantic” Lim Soo-hyang in No.10.
Dramas that were announced at No.4 and No.8 on the drama popularity chart were MBC’s “Chief Detective 1958”, JTBC’s “Frankly Speaking”, KBS2’s “Beauty and Mr. Romantic”, Disney+’s “Blood Free”, and SBS’s “The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection”.
MBC’s “Chief Detective 1958” achieved 10.1% from its first episode, which was an impressive record. It was two times higher than the rating of Kim Nam-joo and Cha Eun-woo’s drama “Wonderful World”. However, Lee Je-hoon and Lee Dong-hwi performed poorly in the popularity chart for drama actors.
SBS’s “The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection” also failed to captivate viewers with its comeback in Season 2. Its viewer ratings are still in the range of 3% and the cast, including Hwang Jung-eum, Lee Yoo-bi and Uhm Ki-joon, did not even appear on the actor popularity chart.
While tvN and JTBC dramas are dominating in terms of both ratings and popularity, “Chief Detective 1958” and “The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection” are about to come to an end. There are still hopes for these two dramas to make a breakthrough in the last episodes.
