It is no exaggeration to say that TVB dramas once defined an entire era for a wide audience in Asia. Although the station has passed its golden age, it still holds a special place in the hearts of viewers. However, recent rumors circulating widely on social media about TVB being on the verge of collapse have left longtime fans deeply concerned. Chinese outlet Sohu has also pointed to several concerning signs suggesting the broadcaster may be nearing a critical point.

According to Sohu, nearly three months into 2026, TVB has yet to begin filming any new drama projects. Typically, the station needs to produce around 13 original series each year. However, in 2025, it reportedly completed only five. If this trend continues into 2026, TVB may be forced to significantly change its programming model.

In addition, the station’s stockpile of self-produced content is said to be running low. Even with reruns and imported content from other platforms, current projections suggest TVB may only be able to maintain broadcasting operations until 2027. This situation has drawn comparisons to Asia Television (ATV), a former rival that ultimately shut down, further heightening concerns among fans.
Reports also indicate that TVB is experiencing a wave of departures, with many employees resigning, including actors, voice actors, and long-time behind-the-scenes staff. Notably, Eric Tsang has reportedly announced he will step down from his position as general manager during an awards ceremony earlier in 2026.

Many believe these departures stem from a lack of confidence in the network’s future. On entertainment forums, public sentiment has turned increasingly pessimistic, especially as the broader film and television industry continues to face challenges.
However, it is important to note that these reports remain one-sided and have not been officially confirmed by TVB. Many viewers still hope that the network can recover and regain its footing in the near future.
