Top 4 most heartbreaking endings of K-drama female leads in 2021

The viewers are not yet over the tragic endings of these female leads in this year’s Korean dramas.

Female leads in Korean dramas often live happily ever after, but the small screen in 2021 has proved the opposite. Instead of happy endings, the following female leads make the audience cry buckets of tears because they all end up having their lives taken away for good.

1. Oh Yeon Hee – Penthouse

In the 3rd and last season of Penthouse, lots of viewers persisted in the belief that the protagonists would have happy endings. But the writer knew how to enrage the viewers when Cheon Seo Jin (Kim So Yeon) takes everything away from Oh Yeon Hee (Eugene) once again and this time, it’s her life. Many fans of Penthouse think that this ending is too cruel for Oh Yeon Hee she deserves better after everything she has gone through.

2. Shim Su Ryeon – Penthouse

Similar to Oh Yeon Hee, Shim Su Ryeon (Lee Ji Ah) also receives a heart-wrenching ending. If Yoon Hee’s death is caused by her enemy, Su Ryeon’s death is her own choice because of guilt after everything she did to take revenge. Su Ryeon’s ending shocks the audience because she is the central character of the protagonist’s side, who is expected to be alive until the end.

3. Kang Sae Byeok – Squid Game

Another female lead with the most tragic fate in recent times is Kang Sae Byeok (Jung Ho Yeon) of Squid Game. 4. Kim Myung Hee – Youth Of May

Despite knowing ahead of time that “Youth Of May” would be a sad love song, the audience was moved by the drama’s tragic ending. The death of Kim Myung Hee (Go Min Si) heightened the drama’s emotional intensity. Anyone who witnessed Myung Hee lying alone in the dark forest in a white dress, quietly closing her eyes, couldn’t help but cry. Even more heartbreaking, it took decades for Hee Tae (Lee Do Hyun) to find Myung Hee, who was only a skeleton at the time.
