Every year, Korea produces many well-loved TV series covering all kinds of topics and genres. Over the years, there have been numerous dramas that left a strong impression on global viewers. Recently, the website Ranker held a poll for the Top 10 best Korean dramas of all time. Let’s find out if your favorite drama made the cut.
Top 10: Boys Over Flowers (Lee Min Ho, Goo Hye Sun)
Boys Over Flowers is an idol drama adapted from a popular Japanese manga, centering 4 handsome rich boys and a poor girl. This is one of the most iconic K-dramas that brought Lee Min Ho from a rookie to a top famous actor. Boys Over Flowers took Asia by storm when it was released in 2009. Up to now, it has been 13 years, but the drama is still a fan favorite, proving that Boys Over Flowers is forever one of the symbols of the Hallyu wave.
Top 9: The Heirs (Lee Min Ho, Park Shin Hye)
Another drama led by Lee Min Ho with a rich guy – poor girl trope. Set in a highschool filled with wealthy students, The Heirs portrays the lives and romance of the young heirs and heiresses in Korea. One of the most famous lines from The Heirs is “One who wants to wear the crown, bears the crown”. It comes as no surprise that The Heirs entered this ranking because the drama’s popularity and influence when it came out was massive.
Top 8: Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo (Lee Sung Kyung, Nam Joo Hyuk)
Youth dramas set in schools always have an endless charm, and Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo is a prime example. The beloved drama tells the story of the female lead Kim Bok Joo and her dream to become a professional weightlifter. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo also depicts the sweet and funny love story of Book Joo and her long-time best friend that steals the hearts of many viewers.
Top 7: Moon Lovers (Lee Jun Ki, IU)
The emotional love story of modern girl Hae Soo and the 4th Prince of the Goryeo Dynasty in Moon Lovers is the pick of many international fans of K-dramas. Besides romance, the series also portrays brotherhood, friendship, and family relationships of the characters. Moon Lovers is a tearjerker that left many viewers heartbroken and ask for a season 2 to enjoy a more complete ending. That’s why it’s been 7 years but Moon Lovers is still so well loved.
Top 6: What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim? (Park Seo Joon, Park Min Young)
Rom-com drama What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim? tells the story of a workplace romance between a boss and his secretary. Park Seo Joon takes on the role of a handsome but arrogant vice president alongside a beautiful secretary who has been by his side for the past 10 years, played by Park Min Young. Things take a turn when the secretary decides to quit her job. The content of the film revolves around a doctor who is the daughter of a talented artist who is drawing a very hot comic called W. Suddenly one day she crosses into the world of comics and meets the male lead in her dream. and then the story is all messed up. The fates of the characters rotate constantly and uncontrollably. So danger also came and the handsome man in the story and the real-life doctor fought together to be able to stay with each other.
Top 4: My Love From the Star (Jun Ji Hyun, Kim Soo Hyun)
