“Too Many Korean Singers”: Japanese Netizens Complain as K-Pop Dominates Japanese Music Shows

According to local media outlet Smart FLASH, the program ‘2024 Music Day’ is facing criticism for its high proportion of K-POP stars.

Critics believe that only up to three foreign artists should appear on their domestic music broadcasts. However, popular K-POP groups such as ENHYPEN, TXT, NewJeans, BOYNEXTDOOR, and LE SSERAFIM are scheduled to appear on ‘2024 Music Day.’

This indicates that K-POP has established itself as mainstream music in Japan, but the high proportion of Korean artists has led to some complaints.

On the 6th, NewJeans successfully completed their fan meeting at the Tokyo Dome, showing the hot popularity of K-POP artists in Japan. Therefore, it is only natural for Japanese broadcasters to feature several K-POP artists in their music programs.

Meanwhile, not only Korean idols but also actors are actively entering the Japanese market.

Choi Ji-woo, who is affectionately called ‘Princess Ji-woo,’ has recently returned to Japanese drama after 13 years. She will play Park So-hyun, a Korean doctor who manages a hospital and restaurant, in the second season of the Japanese drama ‘Black Pean.’
