In a nostalgic yet humorous interview, singer Tony Ahn revealed the behind-the-scenes reality of H.O.T.’s upcoming reunion during his guest appearance on KBS CoolFM’s Super Radio on August 7.
The iconic first-generation K-pop group will take the stage as headliners at the Hanteo Music Festival on September 6 and 7 at Seoul World Cup Stadium. This marks their first full-group performance in six years, with the last being their 2019 concert at Gocheok Sky Dome. The event on September 7 holds special meaning as it falls on H.O.T.’s 29th debut anniversary.

When DJ Haha asked about the upcoming performance, Tony laughed, saying, “We’re preparing for the concert right now… and honestly, I feel like I’m going to die.” He added that while they won’t be releasing a new song, the stage will include classic hits and joint stages with younger idol groups, creating a cross-generational celebration of K-pop.
Tony teased fans by confirming that their 2000 hit “We Are The Future” will be part of the setlist, but warned, “It’s going to be really tough. We’re practicing and I’m barely surviving.”
The conversation also turned nostalgic as Tony reflected on H.O.T.’s early days. He shared that the member who left the biggest first impression on him was Moon Hee-jun, describing him as “a real-life anime character with huge eyes… he looked like Gizmo from Gremlins.” As for the other members, Tony recalled Jang Woo-hyuk being purely innocent and Kangta having a somewhat “rough” vibe before debuting, later transforming into a flower boy image.

Haha stirred the pot by asking about rumored early candidates for H.O.T. membership, including Kim Jong-min, Tiger JK, and even actor Won Bin. Tony expressed surprise, saying, “That’s the first I’ve heard of it. Where did you hear that?” and chuckled at the idea.
He also opened up about the reality behind the final lineup of H.O.T. : “Honestly, I think those of us who didn’t have anywhere else to go just stuck it out. That’s how we became the members.”

The candid talk continued as Tony touched on his relationship history and rumors of being a popular target of romantic interest among female celebrities. While Haha hinted at famous names, Tony clarified: “There’s been some exaggeration. I haven’t been hit on that much. I’ve heard things, but never actually received direct confessions.” He admitted to making the first move once, but added, “It wasn’t 100% successful.”
Tony also briefly mentioned fellow first-gen idol Kim Jae-duk from Sechs Kies, who is currently living in Busan, saying they still keep in touch via text.
With just one month left until their long-awaited performance, fans are eager to witness H.O.T.’s legendary energy on stage once again.
