Tom Holland apologizes to fellow “Spider-Man” actor Andrew Garfield

Hollywood actor Tom Holland cited his naivete in “apology” to Andrew Garfield, his senior in the “Spider-Man” franchise.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on June 14th, Tom Holland opened up about various topics, including his girlfriend Zendaya and the behind-the-scenes of casting for Marvel’s “Spider-Man”.

In particular, the actor expressed regret over not having a conversation with his “senior” Andrew Garfield after being named the new Spider-Man.

“That’s because of my naivete as a kid,” he said, adding, “I was 19 when I got cast. I was so caught up in getting the role that I never took any time to think about what it must have been like for him. If I’d made my second movie and it didn’t necessarily deliver in the way it should have done and they recast me, I would really struggle to bounce back. Andrew bounced back in the most unbelievable way. I just wish I’d called him and just said, ‘You know I can’t turn down this opportunity.’ “

Tom Holland had the opportunity to collaborate with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire in the movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, released in 2021. Regarding the meeting of the three Spider-Men, the actor said, “Myself, Andrew, Tobey — we have this amazing bond as three people who have been through something that is so unique that we really are like brothers. We have a great group chat and we catch up every now and then. It’s called the Spider-Boys.”

On the other hand, Andrew Garfield played the role of Spider-Man in the 2012 film “The Amazing Spider-Man”, and is part of the second Spider-Man generation. Originally, at least three movies were planned, but Andrew Garfield departed when Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios reached a co-production agreement.

Later on, a media outlet revealed leaked emails, which show that Andrew Garfield’s departure was due to his disagreement with Sony CEO Kaz Hirai. Subsequently, the actor was absent from the release announcement of “The Amazing Spider-Man 3.” Regarding the controversy, Andrew Garfield left a meaningful remark, saying that at that time, he didn’t compromise with himself and that it probably appeared “difficult” to others.
