The press call for the play “The Best Plays 9 – Touching the Void” was held at 4 p.m on July 20th at Art One Theater 2 in Daehak-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul. Director Kim Dong-yeon, actors Shin Sung-min, Kim Seon-ho, Lee Hwi-jong, Lee Jin-hee, Oh Jung-taek, Jung Hwan, Jo Hoon and Jung Ji-woo attended the event and talked about their work.
Earlier in October last year, Kim Seon-ho’s ex-girlfriend A posted a disclosure about the actor on an online community. As the controversy grew, Kim Seon-ho apologized then dropped out of all programs and stopped all entertainment activities. However, director Park Hoon-jung of the upcoming movie “Sad Tropical” decided to continue his work with Kim Seon-ho, and the actor also joined the filming in March. Since the movie has not been introduced yet, the play “Touching the Void” turned out to be the work that marks Kim Seon-ho’s return.
Explaining why he chose “Touching the Void” as his return work, Kim Seon-ho said, “It was a really good script. I was offered a role in the play once and then I met it once again through actor Shin Sung-min”. He added, “In fact, I was not picky about where it would be a movie or a play. I chose it because I believed I could concentrate and make the play together with my good colleagues.”
When asked what he had done during his break, Kim Seon-ho answered, “I didn’t do anything apart from filming a movie. It was a hiatus. I tried to calm down and stay healthy”. Kim Seon-ho, who shed tears even before the start of the press call, tried hard to calm his emotions throughout the Q&A session.
Shin Sung-min, who suggested Kim Seon-ho do “Touching the Void” together with him, shared “I got to know actor Kim Seon-ho since we worked together in his previous work. I knew that he received the script and I thought ‘He really suits the role and he would do well’. So I told him, ‘Why don’t you read the script one more time?’.”
“Touching the Void” depicts the survival of British mountaineers Joe Simpson and Simon Yates, who climbed the western ice wall of Ciula Grande in the Peruvian Andes in 1985. Kim Seon-ho plays Jo, a young mountain climber who is isolated in a snow mountain due to a distressing accident.
“Touching the Void”, which began to be performed on July 8th, can be seen at the 2nd Hall of Art Theater 2 in Daehak-ro until September 18th.
