Actress Kang Hae Lim, the new muse of director Jung Ji Woo, is expected to be “the second Kim Go Eun”.
On the morning of November 15th, actress Kang Hae Lim greeted the public for the first time at the press conference for Netflix’s new original series “Somebody”, which was held at the entrance of Lotte Cinema Konkuk University in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. With this, the actress made a splendid debut as a heroine of director Jung Ji Woo, who’s behind “Somebody” as well as successful works like “Happy End”, “4th Place”, “Engyo”, and “Tune in for Love”.
Kang Hae Lim is considered a rookie that appeared like a comet. Despite having starred in series like “Idol Fever” and “Live On” before, “Somebody” is the first work that reveals her presence as an actress. The Netflix series, which will be released on November 18th, is a thriller depicting the story of developer Sum (Kang Hae Lim) and her friends, who gets entangled with the mysterious figure Yoon Oh (Kim Young Kwan), as a murder case takes place through the social connecting app “Somebody”. It is also the first drama produced by film director Jung Ji Woo.
Kang Hae Lim’s role, Sum, is a character who has difficulty in communicating with people, and yet is talented enough to develop an artificial intelligence chatting program and the social connecting app “Somebody”. It is known that Kang Hae Lim had to break through a competition rate of 600:1, before finally being selected for “Somebody” by Jung Ji Woo, who discovered actress Kim Go Eun.
Regarding his decision, director Jung Ji Woo said, “Sum is a completely unique person. I wanted to meet an actress who could completely maintain her own image, rather than just try to be unique. Kang Hae Lim was that kind of actress.”
He also added, “Since she is such an actress, I attempted to faithfully follow Kang Hae Lim’s opinions and various emotions during the process of making and filming characters. There are many parts where the script followed Kang Hae Lim’s tone and expression.”
In response, Kang Hae Lim said she spent a long time meeting and discussing with Jung Ji Woo in order to understand the script. “I’ve never appeared in the lead role in such a big project,” she expressed, adding, “I felt respected because the director asked and listened to my opinions so much. I felt moved throughout the filming.”
Now, anticipation is higher than ever to see if director Jung Ji Woo, who discovered the brilliant rookie Kim Go Eun, will prove his eyesight once again through Kang Hae Lim.
