Summary

“The Scandal of Chunhwa” is a romantic youth historical drama. It is about Princess Hwa-ri, who wants to find her true love on her own after her first love failed and later gets entangled with the city’s most popular playboy, Hwan, and the most popular prospective groom, Jang Won.

Go Ara plays Hwa-ri, the legitimate princess of Dongbangguk. Raised in royal love, she has a free-spirited personality.

Chang Ryul plays Choi Hwan, the wealthiest merchant in the capital and a notorious playboy. With his sly personality and outstanding looks, he effortlessly captivates women’s hearts.

On Feb 5th, a press conference for “The Scandal of Chunhwa” was held at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Seoul. Director Lee Kwang-young, along with actors Go Ara, Chang Ryul, Kang Chan-hee, Son Woo-hyeon and Han Seung-yeon, attended the event.

The first two episodes were pre-screened for the press. Contrary to its lively posters and teasers, the drama features unexpected 19+ scenes, capturing attention. Regarding this, director Lee Kwang-young explained, “The level of sexuality itself was not the goal. The reason we incorporated chunhwa (erotic paintings) was to spark curiosity about who might have written such stories in that era.”

With recent historical dramas like “The Queen Who Crowns” and “The Tale of Lady Ok” gaining popularity, all eyes are on whether “The Scandal of Chunhwa” will continue this trend. Director Lee added, “Beyond breaking conventions with the storyline, we also experimented with new filming techniques. The drama is rich in visual elements, including music and art.
