On February 11, various Chinese media outlets highlighted a recent interview Koo Jun-yup gave to a Korean YouTuber. They reported, “Koo Jun-yup mentioned ‘my wife’ and ‘Barbie’ in almost every sentence, sharing insights on how to choose the right person to marry.”
When asked for marriage advice, Koo Jun-yup said, “Find someone who truly loves you” and “Look for someone whose heart does not change.” He emphasized, “The most important thing is to observe how that person treats those around them. If they are not sincere, it will affect your relationship and hurt your emotions. These details in life cannot be faked.”

Koo Jun-yup and Barbie Hsu were always playful and affectionate. They would dance together at home, share humorous conversations and even playfully wear skirts together, bringing smiles to those around them. This stood in stark contrast to the cold and awkward atmosphere Barbie Hsu exuded when she appeared on the same stage as her ex-husband.
Koo Jun-yup also enjoyed weekly gatherings with Barbie Hsu’s family in Taiwan. He stated, “I am actively learning Chinese because I want to communicate more and interact better with Barbie’s family.” Taiwanese media praised Koo Jun-yup for his loyalty, noting, “Even when Clon’s Kang Won-rae was left unable to perform due to an accident, Koo Jun-yup never abandoned him. He always took care of him and even refused to debut as a solo artist. This shows his true character.”

In the interview, when asked if he missed Korea, Koo Jun-yup shyly replied, “Not really. I am in the happiest moment of my life because I am with the person I love the most.” When praised for being romantic, he said, “I wasn’t always like this, but being with my wife naturally made me this way.” The YouTuber further commented, “Korean men are typically traditional and macho, but Koo Jun-yup not only overcame language barriers and left his homeland for Barbie Hsu, but most importantly, he was able to enjoy everything in Taiwan. He is the perfect man.”
When asked about the real reason he wanted to marry Barbie Hsu, Koo Jun-yup simply said, “Because I felt I could take care of her for a lifetime.” Regarding this, Chinese netizens expressed their grief, “He wanted to take care of her for life, but they couldn’t even make it to three years”, “This is such a heartbreaking love story” and “Koo Jun-yup needs to stay strong.”

Meanwhile, Barbie Hsu passed away on February 2 due to influenza complicated by pneumonia while traveling in Japan with her family. She was 48 years old.
Taiwan’s national actress Barbie Hsu announced her marriage to Koo Jun-yup in 2022, receiving overwhelming support. Their love story was particularly moving, as they had originally dated for a year in 1998 but broke up due to agency interference, only to reunite after 20 years. However, her sudden passing left both Taiwanese and Korean fans mourning deeply.
Amidst this tragedy, rumors regarding Barbie Hsu’s inheritance began circulating. Koo Jun-yup addressed the matter, “Right now, I am going through an indescribable time of sorrow and unbearable pain. I have no strength to speak, nor do I wish to.” He continued “But even before the time to grieve has passed, heartless people have started to slander our family and my love. Some pretend to be mourning while walking in the rain, while others spread fake news about insurance and financial matters just to hurt us”, directly criticizing Barbie Hsu’s ex-husband. He added “All of Barbie’s inheritance will go to my mother-in-law”, firmly shutting down the rumors.
