The possibility of more 2NE1’s performances as four after the surprise reunion at Coachella 2022

Will there be more 2NE1’s reunions in the future?

2NE1, which disbanded in 2016, had a surprise performance of their iconic hit ‘I Am the Best’ with a complete lineup at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, a famous music festival held in California, USA on April 17th (Korean time). This is 2NE1’s first stage as four in 7 years since the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA).

Fans only knew CL was invited to perform at Coachella.  At the end of CL’s stage, the other three members, Minzy, Sandara Park, and Park Bom, made an unexpected appearance to everyone’s surprise.

Looking at the members’ social media accounts, it can be seen how secretly the stage was prepared. Although they are usually active online, they did not share any photos or posts before this performance.

2NE1 debuted in 2009 and became one of the biggest K-pop 2nd generation girl groups thanks to the release of smash hits such as ‘Fire’, ‘I Don’t Care’, ‘Ugly’, and ‘Lollipop’. They announced their disbandment in November 2016, and released their last song ‘Goodbye’ as a farewell in January of the following year.

Following the Coachella stage, discussions on 2NE1’s reunion are expected to accelerate. 2NE1 members have been showing off their strong bond and friendship by staying in touch even after the disbandment, and especially recently, they had a meal together to celebrate the release of Park Bom’s new song.

The problem is that, like this reunion, there needs to be someone who stays in charge and leads the group’s activities moving forward.

In this regard, an industry official said, “As the members have been constantly discussing their performances as four, it is expected that they will reunite anytime if there is someone in charge of planning. After the Coachella, there is a high possibility that music labels will step in and plan their future activities.”
