The late Lee Ji-han, who made an unexpected rise from last place in “Produce 101”, once confidently shared, “I’m sure that I’ll succeed”

At the news of Lee Ji-han passing away at the age of 24 in the Itaewon disaster, netizens are re-examining his performances in “Produce 101 Season 2”.

Earlier on October 30th, Lee Ji-han’s agency 935 Entertainment said, “Our precious family member Lee Ji-han has left us and become a star in the sky. He was a friendly and warm friend to everyone. We still can’t believe that we will not be able to see our bright and pure actor Lee Ji-han, who always smiled brightly and greeted us confidently, anymore.”

Born in 1998, Lee Ji-han made his face known to the public by participating in Mnet’s survival program “Produce 101 Season 2” in 2017.

In particular, he impressed the audience with his burning passion of youth. Lee Ji-han ranked last place (No.98, excluding 3 trainees who voluntarily withdrew from the show) and was nearly the first contestant to be eliminated from “Produce 101 Season 2”. However, he showed efforts to achieve big dreams that were as passionate as the first place.

With his extraordinary skills, Lee Ji-han rose from Class F to Class B, and eventually won the center position in the performance of INFINITE’s “Be Mine” for the Group Battle. In addition, he even participated in recording “Produce 101 Season 2” theme song “PICK ME”. However, since Lee Ji-han was not the PD’s pick, his screentime was nearly zero.

At that time, netizens poured out criticism toward the production team, saying “He was in Class F then went up to Class B during the re-evaluation but still got too little attention and had nearly no screen time. PD, you should reflect on yourself!”, “I’m a fan of other trainees but I feel so sorry for him”, “He’s the victim of PD’s pick”, “I really hate the PD”, “He was the center of ‘Be Mine’ but didn’t get any screen time? OMG”, “He was one of the members who recorded ‘PICK ME’ but they gave him no screen time and eventually eliminated him. I’ll pray for the day when I will able to see you shine brightly on the stage”, “Mnet is bad”, “Why did he get eliminated?”, “He’s a victim of Mnet’s editing”, etc.

Nevertheless, Lee Ji-han said, “I came back home about two months after the show started broadcasting. I couldn’t sleep much during filming, but it’s a bummer that that wasn’t shown on the show. There are still a lot of people who don’t know me at all. I think that’s the saddest part. But thank you so much to my fans for supporting me! Although my ranking was very low, I learned and experienced a lot! I think everyone has their time! I don’t think that time has come to me yet! I will never give up!”.

He continued, “My dream is to become a good singer and a good actor by working hard on what I love, which are acting, singing and dancing! I’m glad and satisfied that I still have my goal. I think it’s a program that helped me learn how to work hard, let me meet a lot of good people, and let me go through a lot of hard times to grow further. But I’m sad that I didn’t come out a lot on the show. I worked hard in Class F and went up to Class B, and while recording ‘PICK ME’, ‘PICK ME’ is a very meaningful song for me. And it was an honor for me to be the center of INFINITE’s ‘Be Mine’ during the group evaluation. Thank you very much. I will continue to be a person who does not stop and moves forward. I’m sure I’ll succeed. I’ll work harder to do that. I’ll work harder and improve and come back with a better performance. Thank you.”
